CHOCOLATE LOAF CAKE

90g (3 oz) butter
2 Tab milk
3 tsp cocoa
1 tsp bicarb
1 small cup sugar about 180g (6 oz)
1 c flour
2 eggs
2 small tsp cr of tartar

Beat the eggs and add to the creamed b&s. Sift cr tartar &cocoa through  the flour, add to mixture.
Dissolve bicarb in the milk and add. Bake 18-20 min in fairly quick oven. Allow to cool, ice with Lamington icing and decorate with nuts.

Lamington Icing:
1 cup icing sugar
1 dess each of butter & cocoa
2 Tab boiling water

Melt in pan over fire, but do not allow to boil.

GOLDEN SYRUP DUMPLINGS

1c SR
1 egg, beaten
1 Tab butter
a little milk

Rub butter into flour and add egg & milk. Roll into small balls and drop into boiling syrup for 20 mins.

Syrup: 1 c water, 1 cup sugar, 1 Tab butter, 1 Tab golden syrup

These may be put into a greased pie-dish, syrup poured over, and cooked in mod oven for 20 min. instead.
